Dr. Pawan Kumar Chugan is a Professor (Retd.) of International Business in the General Management area at the Institute of Management, Nirma University (IMNU) Ahmedabad. Presently, he is a visiting professor at IMNU, Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management (AIIM), Ahmedabad; School of Petroleum Management, PDEU Gandhinagar and Gujarat University, Ahmedabad to teach the courses such as International Business, Export Import Management, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, International Marketing, etc.
He holds a first class M.A. degree in Economics from the University of Rajasthan; a Master of Population Studies (MPS) degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, Ph. D. in Economics from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi and a post-masters Diploma in Economic Planning from Warsaw School of Economics, Poland. He has varied experience of over 44 years in trade, industry, teaching and research. Before joining the Institute of Management at Nirma University in September 2002, he was a Manager at India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), where he worked in various capacities for more than 24 years in the area of International Business. He has also headed the Western Region office of Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), Mumbai as a Deputy Director General and served as the Hon. Executive Secretary to India Iran Chamber of Commerce under the aegis of FIEO Mumbai. He has visited about 25 countries and implemented several export development programs with financial assistance from international organizations like ITC/UNDP , CFTC/UKT A (London), JETRO (Tokyo) and Ministry of Commerce and has led industrial/trade delegations to Japan, Thailand, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Argentina and Chile; and MBA students’ study cum business tours to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, USA and U. K. and has established several international linkages abroad.
A recipient of Polish Government’s Scholarship at Warsaw School of Economics and UGC’s Teachers Fellowship at JNU, New Delhi, Dr. Chugan has organized / chaired / participated in several international and national seminars/conferences/meetings, has to his credit 10 books and several papers published in national and international journals.

He is a “Regional Editor Asia” for Journal of Global Business and Technology (JGBT), and is on the Board of Directors of the Global Business and Technology Association (GBATA) at State University of New York, USA. He has also been appointed as Editor-in-Chief for Universal Journal of Industrial & Business Management published by Horizon Research Publishing (HRPUB), Corporation, Alhambra, CA, USA and Associate Editor (2nd time) of Nirma University Journal of Business and Management Studies.
He is a Ph.D. guide at Nirma University and Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya (University) Gandhinagar, and Examiner of Ph. D. Thesis for Devi Ahilaya University, Indore; SVV Vidayapeeth (University) Indore; DIT University, Dehradun, and International Examiner for the Doctoral Thesis for School of Business, University of Kwazulu, Natal, South Africa.
As a visiting / guest professor, he has taught at Mazandaran University of Science and Technology (MUST), Babol, Iran; Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Gandhinagar; Amity Global Business School, Ahmedabad and PDPU, Gandhinagar and is also an expert panel member/examiner of Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
He is a member of several professional/management associations such as: Institute of Supply Management (ISM), Tempe, USA, Association of Indian Management Scholars (AIMS), Houston; Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE), New Delhi; Indian Society of Training & Development (ISTD), New Delhi, Regional Science Association, India, Kolkata, All India Management Association (AIMA), New Delhi, and Universal Association of Computer and Electronics Engineers (UACEE) under the umbrella of the Institute of Research Engineers and Doctors (IRED), Santa Barbara, California, USA.
He has been the recipient of “Global Excellence Award” (twice 2007 and 2012) from the Global Business and Technology Association (GBATA), State University of New York at Old Westbury, USA. He was also awarded “Rashtriya Gaurav Award” on August 13, 2016, by the Hon’ble Dr. Bhishma Narain Singh, the Former Governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam in a seminar organized by India International Friendship Society, New Delhi.
He has also been awarded with the “Dewang Mehta Education Award, for best Professor in International Business” on Oct. 4, 2017 at function held at Ahmedabad and “AIMS International Outstanding Management Researcher Award” by AIMS Houston, USA at its 15th International Conference held at IMT Ghaziabad on Jan. 6, 2018.
In recognition of his contributions to the cause of human resource development, he has been conferred with the ISTD Fellowship for the 2017. Award was jointly presented by Dr. Vinayshil Gautam, President Emeritus ISTD & Founder Director IIM Khozikode and Dr. R Karthikeyen, National President, ISTD at the glittering function of 47th National Convention “NATCON 2018” organised by the ISTD Chennai Chapter during 8 – 9 June, 2018 at Hotel “Hilton Chennai”. It was indeed a moment of pride for the ISTD Ahmedabad Chapter at the NATCON.
He has also been conferred with the “MTC Global Outstanding Management Teacher Award 2018”. Award was conferred upon him on Sept. 8, 2018 at the 8th World Edu. Summit held at Bangalore and the most recent one is “AIMS International Distinguished Service Award” – conferred by the AIMS Houston, USA on Jan. 3, 2019 at 16th AIMS International Conference held at SIMS, Pune. He was also conferred the Outstanding Management Teacher’s Award by Higher Education Forum (HEF), Mumbai on Sept. 14, 2019 during the teacher’s day celebrations held at Mumbai and recently ISTD Best Member Award conferred at the Inaugural Function of 49th World Conference of IFTDO held at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi on May 19, 2022.
With more than 30,200 downloads of his research papers, his Author’s ‘SSRN Papers’ Download Ranking rests in “Top 1% of Authors” out of over 8.75 lakh authors the world over.
His teaching and research interest includes various topics / subjects under the mainstreams of International Business, Economics, Supply Chain & Logistics Management.
